Using and running Rollout

License

A Rollout license is a small signed text that the app checks itself, without a license server. That works the same everywhere: on Vercel, in your own Azure or behind a firewall without internet.

How the check works

  1. ROLLOUT_LICENSE
the text you get from us
  2. Signature
Ed25519, with the public key in the app
  3. Valid until
    plus 30 days of grace
  4. Plan and features
e.g. live board and one-click fix

The license looks like RL1.<payload>.<signature>. Change even one character in the payload, for example a later end date or more engineers, and the signature no longer matches.

FieldMeaning
plantrial, starter, professional, plus (Professional Plus) or enterprise
maxEngineersMaximum team members at the MSP. Clients and employees don't count
migrationsMigrated employees included per month. Exceeding it never blocks anything
deploymenthosted or self-hosted
expiresAtLast valid day, followed by 30 days of grace

Setting it up

Set the license as ROLLOUT_LICENSE (Vercel: Production; self-hosting: deploy/.env) and redeploy. On the Security page you immediately see the license card: plan, end date and number of seats.

What happens when it expires

StateWhat you seeDoes Rollout work?
ValidLicense card on the Security pageYes
Expires within 30 daysNotice on the Security pageYes
Grace (0–30 days after the end date)Warning in the appYes, everything
Expired more than 30 days, invalid or no licenseAn explanation screen with "Renew license"No: app, booking and portal pages and APIs are locked
Your data is always kept

Locked means: the app only shows an explanation screen. Nothing is deleted. With a valid license everything opens up again right away. The grace period makes sure a client is never cut off in the middle of a migration.

License and updates

Your license covers every version released before its end date. After that you can only install security fixes within your current version. The grace period keeps Rollout running, but doesn't extend the right to new versions.
